First Proper Attempt at Moving Accounts

Tried moving accounts into a proper database structure tonight. It loads. It writes. It looks fine. Logged in.Made a character.Everything appears normal. But something feels off. Saving isn’t consistent. Need to trace exactly where everything is writing to. This might be more complicated than expected.

Maybe This Is Bigger Than I Thought

Been thinking about this more than I probably should. Started as something to mess around with. But the more I look at it, the more I realise this could actually be rebuilt properly. Not just “run Crystal”. Rebuild it. Keep the core gameplay exactly how it always was. But fix how data is handled.Fix how […]

Quick Test With Gold

Didn’t plan to start changing anything yet. But curiosity won. Tried something small. Instead of letting gold save the usual way, I redirected it to a proper database table. It worked. 100%. Gold updates. Reloads. No issues. Interesting. Not touching accounts or characters yet. But this proves something. Data doesn’t have to live where it […]

The More I Look, The Worse It Gets

Another few hours tonight just reading through the server code. It’s impressive in one way – everything works. But it’s also obvious how much has just grown over time. Functions calling functions calling functions. Stuff saved in one place, referenced somewhere else. Some things hardcoded. Some things configurable. Some things half-and-half. It’s not “bad”.It’s just old. Still […]

This Isn’t Going To Scale

pent a few hours digging deeper. The more I look at it, the more obvious it becomes. This setup is fine if you just want to spin up a quick server. But long term? No chance. Everything is tightly linked. Saving routines touch multiple systems.Account logic ties directly into character handling.Flat file writes everywhere. One […]

Started Looking Through the Files

Logged back in tonight. Played around for a bit. Spawned some items. Moved around a few maps. Then started looking through the server files properly. Everything is inside the server. Accounts. Characters. Items. Maps. All of it. Two main flat files basically controlling everything. If one record corrupts, that’s potentially the whole lot gone. There’s […]

Downloading Crystal

Was bored.Started looking for a Mir server to play. Side note – what’s with everyone being on Discord nowadays? Couldn’t find anything that felt right. Ended up on LOMCN. Found a ready-to-run Crystal source on GitHub. Downloaded it. Three hours later I had my own Mir server running locally. Didn’t expect that. Loads up fine. […]
