Moved Core Data Over (It “Works”)
Moved accounts, characters and gold into the new data system. Login works.Characters load.Gold saves.Reads back fine. Looks like a win. Then I loaded into the game… Values weren’t right. Gold showing wrong.Items acting weird.Stuff not matching what was actually stored. No idea why yet.
Tried New Graphics Engines
Tried a few alternative graphics engines to get away from the DirectX dependency. Every single one failed. Couldn’t even load the login screen. So for now the client stays where it is, and DirectX stays. Not ideal, but at least it runs.
Client Upgrade Attempt (Failed)
Tried moving the client up as well. Found out fast it’s not that simple because the client is tied to DirectX. Spent hours thinking “it’ll be a quick change”. It wasn’t.
Upgrading the Runtime
Upgraded the server to .NET 10. Not because we need shiny new things, but because if this ever goes live it needs to run on something modern and supported. Server side is fine. Client… different story.
Still Refactoring
This is not glamorous work. Still breaking down functions.Still isolating systems.Still chasing small dependencies. But the structure now actually makes sense. Everything has a place. That wasn’t true before.
Deleted It
Rolled everything back. Full revert. Back to the original Crystal setup. All the database work gone. Weeks of changes. Deleted. It wasn’t stable. It wasn’t clean. And it definitely wasn’t something I’d want to build on long term. Hard decision. But the right one. If this is going to be rebuilt properly, it needs to be done properly. […]
Left It Alone
Didn’t touch it for a few days. Needed a reset. Sometimes you stare at the same problem too long and everything just blurs together. Came back tonight and read through the changes I’d made. It’s messy. Not in a “bad code” way. In a “I tried to patch over structure instead of fixing it properly” […]
What Am I Even Doing
This was supposed to be simple. Move accounts. Then characters. Then everything else. Instead I’ve spent the last few weeks chasing save paths that don’t even make sense anymore. Fix one thing.Break three others. Login works.Game runs.Looks fine. But nothing actually persists properly. Two systems fighting each other. Flat files still quietly doing their own thing behind […]
This Is Getting Messy
Spent most of today tracing save routines. Everything touches everything. Account links to character.Character links to inventory.Inventory links to item data.Item data links back into account save. Changing one thing breaks something else that shouldn’t even be related. Every “small change” creates another problem. This is no longer a quick refactor.
It “Works”… But Nothing Saves
Good. Then we write it exactly like that. Short.Clear.No mystery. 📅 POST 8 Title:April 27, 2024 – It “Works”… But Nothing Saves Publish Date:April 27, 2024 – 23:11 Accounts are now loading from the database. Login works.Character select works.Game loads. Looks like success. Except… Nothing actually saves. Gold changes.Items move.Characters update. Log out.Log back in. […]
