It’s Finally Readable
Core files now down from 30k+ lines to 2–3k each. Packets isolated.Movement isolated.Saving isolated.Spawning isolated. Still breaks randomly. But at least now when something breaks, I know where to look. That alone is progress.
This Is Boring
Nothing exciting to report. Just splitting files. Moving functions.Updating references.Rebuilding structure. It’s slow. It’s repetitive. But it’s cleaner every day. No new features. No flashy systems. Just structure.
Back to Mapping
Reset again. No more quick changes. Spent tonight just breaking files apart. Some of these core files are 30,000+ lines long. No one should have to scroll that far to find anything. New plan: Every function gets its own file.Packets separated.Core logic separated.Stop letting everything live in one monster file. This is going to take […]
Stop Touching Everything
New rule: No changing five systems at once. One layer at a time. Understand it.Remove it cleanly.Replace it properly. If it doesn’t work cleanly, it gets removed. No half measures.
Deleted It. Again.
Started again. Not rolling back. Not tweaking. Deleted the changes and reset. Second time this project has been wiped. It’s not wasted time though. Every restart makes it clearer what actually needs to change first.
This Is Out of Control
Spent weeks adjusting message formats. Every time one thing worked, something else broke. Fix gold → inventory breaks.Fix inventory → character stats desync.Fix stats → login fails. Too many packets.Too many assumptions baked into old structures. At this point it’s clear this isn’t a “patch and continue” situation. This needs ripping out properly. Again.
Rebuilding The Messaging
Started rebuilding the message formats properly. It’s not glamorous. It’s just a lot of “change this, update that, retest, repeat”. But for the first time in a while, it feels like progress again. Because now the bugs actually make sense.
Found It (Packet Sizes)
Finally found the real problem. It wasn’t the save system. It wasn’t the data. It was communication between the client and server. Some of the old message formats simply can’t carry what we’re sending now. So values look “random” because they’re being cut off / misread. Packet sizes. Months wasted on the wrong thing. But […]
Weeks Lost on “Ghost Values”
Still stuck. Some things work perfectly.Other things are wrong in-game for no obvious reason. It’s like the game is reading something… just not what it should be reading. The scary part is it almost works. Which makes it harder to find the issue.
Everything Saves… But The Game Lies
This is the worst type of bug. Data is saving correctly.Data is loading correctly. But in-game, it shows the wrong values. So you don’t know what to trust. Spent hours checking the save logic. Then checked the load logic. Then checked it again. Still makes no sense.
