After all the work we have completed on the server, database and website, we realised that we had overlooked one of the most important basics: the client auto-patcher. Based on feedback from our closed beta players, we have spent almost the entire day rebuilding and improving both the client and server sides of the Mir Vengeance patching system. Massively Faster File Scanning The biggest improvement is the speed at which the launcher checks your game files. Previously, the patcher checked every individual file to determine whether an update was required. It now checks the size of each folder first and only scans the files inside when something appears to have changed. This has made the initial scan up to 1,000 times faster in our testing, particularly when most of your game files are already up to date. Faster and More Reliable Downloads The launcher can now download multiple files at once, significantly reducing the time required to install larger updates. We have also:[*] Fixed downloads for files containing spaces in their names.[*] Fixed a crash that could occur during larger downloads.[*] Added clearer scanning, comparison and download stages.[*] Added accurate download speeds and remaining file sizes.[*] Added an estimated completion time based on your average download speed.[*] Improved file-integrity checking to ensure updates download correctly. A Completely Updated Launcher The launcher has received a substantial visual overhaul to match the Mir Vengeance website. The updated launcher now includes:[*] Clear overall patching progress shown as a percentage.[*] The name and speed of the file currently downloading.[*] An estimated time remaining.[*] A redesigned Launch button.[*] An Auto-start option.[*] Live Mir Vengeance news directly inside the launcher.[*] Rotating in-game leaderboards.[*] Links that open correctly in your normal browser.[*] Improved layout and scrolling at different screen sizes. We have also fixed several layout problems, including the bottom launcher controls covering parts of the news and update checklist. Automatic Launcher Updates The launcher can now update itself automatically. This means future improvements to the patcher can be delivered without requiring players to manually download and reinstall a new version. The launcher will download the update, safely replace itself and restart automatically. New Installer and ZIP Download We have rebuilt both the Mir Vengeance installer and portable ZIP package with the latest launcher. New players can use the installer for a straightforward setup, while existing players can continue using the automatic patching system. Ready for Closed Beta The result is a much faster, clearer and more reliable launcher that handles game updates, displays live news and leaderboards, and shows exactly what it is doing throughout the process.
